Character Name: Guts
Canon: Berserk
Canon Point: Just before he gets on the boat(end of Chapter 278)
History:
This site has the most comprehensive history for Guts
Personality:
Guts is extraordinarily pragmatic. He comes across as really blunt and unfriendly to most people, though it's easy enough to get past him just by surviving if you are near him(which is something he honestly does not recommend, but people do it anyway). The truth is that Guts has loved and lost WAY too much to really put his trust in people very often, and would prefer to be alone to making new friends that might betray him or get killed in the end, though he also advocates people doing whatever they want as well, and so long as they don't get in his way, he doesn't care if they follow him around. Farnese, a young noblewoman who had been following him around for awhile, taking care of Casca(his lover, who has developed dementia after a VERY traumatic experience involving basically being in Hell for a little bit and being raped by a man that she had looked up to as nearly a god), had disappeared at one point, and when they heard from her again, it was said that she would not be rejoining them as she had been engaged in her absence, and Guts' response was simply that they should go see and talk to her, presumably only to see if she was in danger or unhappy. He did not seem keen on taking her away if she was alright, and when they find her, her betrothed is actually a pretty cool guy and she's pretty happy with him, and if the tiger-like demons had not attacked, he likely would have left her there.
He does make a conscious effort not to hurt innocent people, however gruff and unfriendly he may appear. He does not mourn most when they die though, the only exceptions being people who actually manage to stick around him long enough for him to be endeared to them. For example, when he meets an old man and his granddaughter on the road who offer to help him, he initially turns them down citing that it would be too dangerous for them. They are eventually killed at night, and he doesn't feel really bad about it, saying that he HAD warned them, and he even has no issues cutting the young girl down when her body is possessed by a spirit. It hardly even made much of a dent in his demeanor, however, he gets very protective of all of the members of 'his new party', all of which who have bared their souls to him, sometimes in a more literal sense, and he mourned(and is continuing to mourn) the deaths of the original Band of the Hawk, and their slaughter is his main driving force in his journey.
In all honesty, Guts would really like nothing more than to feel as though he belongs, but he knows that as long as his enemies exist still, and as long as he has the Brand(a marking on his right shoulder which denotes his being a 'sacrifice' to the demons), he will never be able to settle down, hardly even for a night. He does his best to hide this side of him, not wishing anyone else to come to harm for his sake as he selfishly seeks out revenge on Griffith, the man who had sacrificed the entire Band of the Hawk who had previously been the only people that Guts had ever come to trust and rely upon for emotional and physical support.
Guts is also extraordinarily hard-headed. When he gets an idea in his head, it is nearly impossible to talk him out of it, especially in the heat of battle. In fact, this is why the series is called Berserk, as when he is in battle, his rage and stubbornness keep him in the fight far longer than he should even live, and at one point, he is gifted the Armor of Berserk by a forest witch to compliment his fighting style- that of the berserker, a warrior known to fly into a trance-like uncontrollable rage during battle who could ignore his own injuries in exchange for losing his sense of self and simply slaughtering anything that drew too near, friend or foe.
As such, he does believe that brute strength will normally get him through anything, and that if brute strength does not do it, then it obviously just needs more brute strength. He's not usually wrong, though he doesn't really have a backup plan and though he does not like to rely on others, he often has to turn to them for things that are more subtle to 'swing a really big sword at them'.
Even with Guts being very powerful(his sword is called the Dragonslayer and is often described as 'too big, too thick, and too long' to even be called a sword, it's just a bug huge hunk of iron with some sharp parts), he does not have a big head about him. He's not in denial that he is as strong as he is, he's jsut not a showoff, and especially now with the Band of the Hawk drama, he tries to keep his head low. He does not want people to know that he is the legendary Captain of the Hawk Raiders, because it dredges up painful memories, and would likely bring up questions about why he is not with them now, which would probably cause him to get angry again.
Items on your character at canon point:
He's a walking arsenal so:
-1 Dragonslayer(giant sword of wreckage)
-4 throwing knives
-An artificial arm that is also a hand cannon and has a crossbow attachment
-said crossbow attachment
-a vague number of crossbow bolts, gunpowder, and cannonballs(the small kind)
-fairy dust(for healing wounds/sickness)
-The cursed Armor of Berserk(which he is wearing)
-A sort of holster for his huge sword so he can wear it on his back
Abilities:
Guts is an exceptional fighter, with strength that is noted as being 'inhuman'(though he will argue that he is 100% human), and he can be very unpredictable in battle, often coming up with interesting ways to utilize nearly any situation.
On top of that, Guts is a Berserker. For better or worse, in the heat of battle he can cast off his sense and humanity and become a nearly unstoppable force. This state allows him to power through(but not heal) his injuries, and with the help of his Armor of Berserk, he can temporarily patch even broken bones for him to continue using the limbs until the battle is over, whereupon his injuries catch up with him.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
As previously stated, Guts is a Berserker. In normal battle, this is just him going in to fight with the added help of adrenaline keeping him from pulling away. With his cursed armor, he actually loses control of himself and can harm himself more than he realizes, as well as hurt the people around him who he cares for. Really, he will just hurt everything.
He's... not actually too well educated. Guts is practical, for sure, but that's about the extent of it. He's living as a mercenary in a world where literacy wasn't really necessary for most people, so reading and writing would not be strong suits, if he can do either at all.
Not very personable. Guts has a hard time making friends. Most of the ones who become his companions do so because of necessity(like Casca, Schierke, Evarella, and Serpico) or because they were somehow impressed by him and he didn't actively drive them away(Isidro and Puck are these). Overall, he tends to make people think HE is the 'bad guy' by dressing all in black and being generally unfriendly to strangers most of the time. Especially if they are a mob forming around him with torches and pitchforks. Yeah, he's not good at handling delicate situations.
Not sure if it's anything solid, but Guts also has just the worst luck, really. He is born from a corpse(literally, his mother was hung when she was pregnant, and he came out after the fact), and he was raised by mercenaries who were FAR less than kind to him and he had the luck to leave one mercenary band to get picked up by another and then to leave that one and join the ONE band whose leader sacrificed them all to demons to become a God Hand(high-ranking demon lord, possibly an actual god, though Berserk leaves this intentionally ambiguous).
Guts only has only one eye as well, having lost the other to a demon, and he has the Brand of Sacrifice.
The Brand of Sacrifice serves a number of purposes. First, it marks him as a sacrifice for demons, drawing spirits and demons toward him in order to try to kill him(he can see these demons and spirits due to his time in the demon realm, which not many people can normally do unless they've come to the real world all the way and taken physical form), and it also will signal that demons are coming by causing him pain as it bleeds. The greater the pain and the more blood, the stronger the demon, though the young witch, Schierke, has drawn a seal on it to lessen it's effects all around. Until it is washed off with water or smudged, at least.

Network/Action Sample:
[His gargantuan sword in it's sling on his back, he decided to take a try on this 'network'. It had to be video, he didn't know how to do much else. His one good eye stared into the little device, a tired expression overtaking his face.]
Anyone know where I can find bandages?
[He rubbed at the back of his head, looking away as he felt a little awkward, knowing that this little device was actually showing his face, broadcasting it to a number of people.]
I don't have any money... so... Yeah. Really, I guess anything cloth will work.
[He holds up a hand so that it is kind of in view. His left hand, all wrapped in bloodied bandage that looks as if it had not been changed in some time, and probably seen some heavy lifting.]
Just need to replace this mess.
Prose Log Sample:
The sky had turned red as the sun began to set. Guts, noticing this, found a chill going down his spine as he tried with all of his might not to touch at the marking on the back of his neck. The seal there was a tenuous protection from the demons that had haunted him, but it worked enough to guarantee him sleep. Even so, being alone once more and in the dark and wilderness brought up the memories of those ghostly hands reaching out to him from the afterlife, the beasts that crawled towards him, desiring nothing more than to rip his flesh from his bones.
The seal. The seal would keep him safe here, right? Well, as safe as it could, rather. There was not stopping it if something just happened to wander by. To that effect, perhaps it was a better plan to find somewhere indoors to sleep near rather than trying to build a campfire out here.
Eh, he'd give it a shot. The light was still in the sky for the time being, he had a few minutes at least in order to find himself some shelter from the elements. It would really not go over well if it rained, would it? He could kiss sleeping at night goodbye, it would just be nonstop fighting again.
Even at these thoughts, however, he found himself more worried that he would not be returning to Casca. Surely, those four could handle keeping her safe for a little while, right? It was hard to believe so, but Scheirke was so powerful for her age, and Farnese had been great at keeping tabs on her so far. Even as he shook slightly, he decided that he could try to just... focus on his well being, however, only so long as he absolutely needed to, because he had vowed that he would never leave Casca behind again, and they still had so long to go until they could reach Skellig.
"I guess I'll have to see..." he said to himself with a bit of a grimace on his face, "... if I can find any hospitality here." He groaned a bit, looking to the ground. Gods, he was notgood at dealing with people. And honestly, he'd prefer it to be on his own here, but how could he be certain that any of these buildings were not occupied? He didn't have the time yet tonight to do a thorough search.
